Do I love this pattern? Yes. I made it 8 times so far for myself and my sister.
What fabric did I use? So far I made it in cotton poplin, lawn, viscose, viscose twill, denim and chambray. All work really well and create a different silhouette.
How is the sizing? It runs a bit big. However, as with any pattern, be it indie or “Big 4”, I completely disregard the sizing and go straight to “finished garment measurements. I find this is the only way to get the fit I want. I’m 165cm (5’5) tall and the length is perfect for me. The pattern comes in size 6-24.
How clear are the instructions? I made my first version as a beginner and made some mistakes with the collar. If you’re an adventurous beginner, look up YouTube tutorials on collar constructions. These days I do NOT make my collar and then attach it to the shirt. I prefer to construct it on the shirt. I sew the collar stand to the neckline and then add the collar. That way I know my pieces fit. On my first attempt the collar stand ended up being much longer that the finished shirt.
Is it worth buying? Absolutely! You get 4 different options with this pattern and the classic shape it will never go out of fashion. I usually wait for the 50% sale offers and get my patterns then.
I have used this pattern so many times it’s definitely earned its own little review post, mainly to share all the different versions I’ve made so far.
Denim version Viscose twill version for my sister. She wore it non-stop until the fabric fell apart. Denim version for my sister Viscose version for my sister Chambray version for my sister. She wore this dress to death. The actual pattern.
I wish my sister did some modelling for me. These dresses look so good on her. Maybe one day.
I’m planning one in black pique and silver grey, view B again. I’d love to try View A..and also view C and D. I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of this pattern. If you haven’t tried it, you should but please please check the finished measurements first!
